Replacing the Rheostat on an X3, X4 or X8 Series BATCADDY

The below instructions go over how to replace the rheostat on an X Series BATCADDY. All steps should be performed with the BATCADDYS battery unplugged.

Finding the Circuit Board

The rheostat is wired to the circuit board in the handle. To get to the circuit board, peel up the faceplate to expose the screw that holds the circuit board in place.
After removing this screw, you can shimmy the circuit board housing back and forth to remove it from the frame.

Removing The Rheostat

The rheostat is secured to the frame with a lock nut. To expose the lock nut, slide the knob off the rheostat post. You can then loosen and remove the locknut.

Unplugging The Rheostat

Follow the wire from the rheostat to the circuit board. You may notice clear adhesive that has dried and surrounded the plugs. This can typically be peeled away, if it has dried and hardened, you may need to gradually pick it away. Once the remnants of this adhesive have been remove you can unplug the rheostat and remove it through the frame where the circuit board was removed from.

Rheostat Mounting Plate

Some model BATCADDY's feature a removable plate that the rheostat is fixed to. Removing this plate may make the installation easier and be necessary in some cases.

Installing the new Rheostat

Plug the new rheostat into the circuit board, then anchor it to the frame or mounting plate using the lock nut. You can then reassemble and test your cart.
